Formula 1 or F1 is the the world’s most prestigious motor racing competition which was launched in the year 1950, the competition is so pupular that it is regarded as one of the world’s most popular annual sporting series. What makes Formula 1 so popular is the fact that Formula 1 fans are attracted to high-tech vehicles, speed, and driving skill. As earlier stated, the Formula 1 World Championship runs from March to December each and every year and it spans 21 races in 21 countries including Canada, United States, China, Italy, Brazil amongst others. Formula 1 has a global reach because its races take place across four continents, which is something huge. It is true that not all races are equal and there are certain races which most people look forward to on the Formula 1 calendar, some of the most popular Formula 1 are the Belgian Grand Prix and the Monaco Grand Prix.

Formula 1 has produced some exceptionally gifted drivers over the years but Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton are arguably the all time best Formula 1 drivers with a total of 7 World Championships each, but Schumacher falls short of Hamilton in terms of the number of wins because Lewis Hamilton has 103 wins whereas Michael Schumacher has 91 wins. This article seeks to list all the current Formula 1 drivers and give a summary of these drivers paying particulr attention to their height as well as their weight.

1. Valtteri Bottas

Valtteri Bottas is a popular Formula 1 driver from Finland who learnt his craft on Finnish roads of ice and snow. According to Bottas, driving on frozen roads has prepared him to be a successful driver he has become. He made his F1 debut in the year 2013 and he became an instant success, few years later in 2017, he landed the most coveted seat in F1 at the time when he joined Merceded to fill in the vacant championship-winning seat at Mercedes. After five years of success with Mercedes, the giant company decided to drop him after five seasons and he is now with Alfa Romeo where he replaced Kimi Raikkonen.

Height : 1,73 m (5′ 8″) Valterri Bottas is the joint sixteenth tallest driver measuring 1.85m together with Sergio Perez.

2. Pierre Gasly

Pierre Gasly is a French Formula 1 driver who was born on the 7th of February 1996. 2017 was Gasly’s breakthrough year because that is when he made his debut in Malaysia as Daniil Kvyat’s replacement. The following year, Pierre Gasly was named a Toro Rosso driver the following year, when he was 21 years old, Gasly landed his big deal when he landed a role as a Red Bull driver when he replaced Daniel Ricciardo. His stay at Red Bull was a brief one and he quickly went back to Toro Rosso in the same year 2019. At the present moment, Pierre Gasly is with AlphaTauri and he will be with Alpine next year.

3. Alexander Albon

Alexander Albion is a popular Thai-British Formula 1 driver who was born in London on the 23rd of March 1996. In the year 2016, Albon had a great GP3 season and was only pipped to the 2016 GP3 title by Charles Leclerc. He was part of the Formula 2 in 2018 and he had yet another great campaign as he took the 2018 Formula 2 title fight down to the wire, his success in F2 saw him graduating to the Formula 1 in 2019. Alexander Albion started the 2019 Formula 1 campaign with Toro Rosso in the opening races, he did exceptionally well that he earned a mid-season promotion to Red Bull Racing. At Red Bull, he partnered with Max Verstappen and he took top-six finishes in eight of his nine 2019 races with Red Bull. His marriage with Red Bull was not very successful and he was eventually dropped from Red Bull’s race line-up, at the moment he is on the books of Williams, with which he is due to stay until 2023.

4. Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso is a great Formula 1 driver who rose to prominence at a time when Michael Schumacher was at his peak. Fernando Alonso’s greatest achievements as a Formula 1 driver came around 2005-6 because he won the series’ World Drivers’ Championship for two consecutive years in 2005 and 2006 with Renault. Alonso’s perfomances in Formula 1 were characterised by blistering speed, brilliant tactical thinking, exemplary race craft, a razor-sharp eye for detail and a relentless determination to win. Fernando Alonso has had a great career even though many believe he could have achieved even more, he has driven for several McLaren, Ferrari, Alpine and Minardi.

5. Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton is arguably the greatest Formula 1 driver in the history of the sport, this immensely popular Formula 1 driver was born on the 7th of January 1985. Lewis Hamilton is tied with Michael Schumacher with a total of 7 World Championships, the good thing for him however is the fact that he is still racing so he still has the opportunity to add at least 1 more World Championship. Lewis Hamiltonholds most career records for drivers, including most wins, pole positions, and podium finishes among others. Lewis Hamilton’s first Formula 1 season came in the year 2007 as a McLaren driver who he joined through the McLaren young driver programme in 1998. Hamilton was part of the McLaren team from 2007 up to 2012 when he left to join Mercedes. Lewis Hamilton realised most of his success as a Mercedes driver because with Mercedes, he got a total of 6 World Championships as compared to the one he got when he was a McLaren driver.

Height : 1.74m (5′ 7″) Lewis Hamilton is the joint fourteenth tallest driver measuring 1.85m together with Kevin Magnussen.

Weight : 73kg. Lewis Hamilton is the joint second heaviest driver weighing 73kgs together with Nicholas Lafiti.

6. Lance Stroll

Lance Stroll  is a Canadian–Belgian racing driver who was born on 29 October 1998 and he competes under the Canadian flag in Formula One. Stroll has driven for a number of teams in the past including Williams, Racing Point and also for Aston Martin, who he has been working with since 2021. Stroll had just celebrated his 18th birthday when he was unveiled by Williams and he remains one of the talented young Formula 1 drivers. Stroll meant business in his debut 2017 season, setting records on the way. An opportunistic racer he bounded onto the podium in Baku, the youngest rookie to do so. In Monza he mastered the downpours to become the youngest driver in history to line up on the front row. Stroll has the potential to be a long-term fixture in Formula 1 – as amply illustrated by a maiden pole and another two podiums in 2020.

7. Yuki Tsunoda

Yuki Tsunoda is a Japanese Formula 1 driver who is looking to be the first Japanese driver to win a World Championship Grand Prix. Yuki Tsunoda is a young driver who was born on the 11th of May 2000. Yuki Tsunoda has had a rapid rise to the top tier of motorsport because in just over three years, he went from racing in Japanese F4 to a Formula 1 seat, that is astonishing. At the moment, Yuki Tsunoda is with AlphaTauri, to be honest, he is struggling but the potential for him to be successful is there. The fact that Yuki Tsunoda has the backing of Red Bull and Honda suggests that the future is bright for this young man.

8. Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen is a very gifted formula 1 driverwho is the reigning World Champion having won the Formula One World Championship in 2021 and 2022. Max Verstappen is a Belgian-Dutch who was born on the 30th of September 1997 in Belgium. Verstappen broke onto the scene as the youngest ever Formula 1 driver when he was 17 years old and he has never looked back ever since. He competes with Red Bull Racing. He won his first race at the age of 18 years and 228 days and this made him the youngest race winner. Max Verstappen comes from a racing family because his father Jos Verstappen was also a Formula 1 driver. After years of just falling short of winning the World Championship, Max Verstappen finally did it in 2021 and 2022 and it certainly looks like he will dominate Formula 1 for the next few years.

9. Sebastian Vettel

Sebastian Vettel is a German racing driver who is regarded as one of the most successful Formula 1 drivers in the history of the sport. Vettel has previously driven for several constructors including BMW Sauber, Toro Rosso, Red Bull, and Ferrari, currently, he is working with Aston Martin. During the early years of his career, Sebastian Vettel realised so much success because by age 26, he had managed to win a total of 4 World Championships including back-to-back world titles between 2010 and 2013, this shows jusw how dominant he was. Sebastian Vettel has had a great career with more than 50 pole positions and race victories in his career,  the only frustrating thing with Sebastian Vettel is the fact that he could have done even more but he has struggled to mantain his early success and is now just an average driver.

10. Zhou Guanyu

Zhou Guanyu is a chinese Formula 1 driver who has made history by becoming the first chinese Grand Prix starter. Zhou Guanyu was born on the 30th of May 1999 and is currently competing in his debut Formula One campaign for Alfa Romeo. Zhou Guanyu’s first enocounter with Formula 1 came way back in 2004 when he attended his home city’s inaugural Grand Prix in 2004 at the age of five, that experience might be responsible for him choosing to be a racing driver. Zhou moved to England with his family aged just 12 to pursue his motorsport ambitions. In 2014, Zhou Guanyu was signed by Ferrari to their driver academy and a year later, he finished second in the Italian F4 championship. He moved to Renault in 2019 and that is the year he made his debut in Formula 2. Zhou is living his dream as he is part of the Alpha Romeo team alongside Valtteri Bottas.

11. Nicholas Latifi

Nicholas Latifi is a Canadian racing driver who was born on 29 June 1995 and he competes in Formula 1 for Williams Racing under the Canadian flag in the 2022 Formula One World Championship. Latifi made his Formula One debut at the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix and has served as a test and reserve driver for Renault, Force India and Williams. Latifi’s first taste of F1 machinery actually came all the way back in 2017, when he was given a test by Renault. Further duties with Force India followed in 2018 before he joined the Williams family in 2019. When he joined Williams, he was a full-time reserve driver, competing in six FP1 sessions throughout the season. His performances in Formula 2 were also catching as he did win four races and finished on the podium a further four times, securing P2 in the standings. Following his strong season, Latifi was confirmed as a Williams driver to race alongside George Russell for the 2020 Formula 1 season.

12. Charles Leclerc

Charles Leclerc was born in the Mediterranean idyll of Monaco on the 16th of October 1997, when Leclerc broke onto the Formula 1 season, there was a tidal wave of expectation but he is yet to really leave a mark by winning the World Championship. His debut Formula 1 season came in 2018 and he showed flashes of ballistic pace for a kid his age, his perfomances in his debut season earned him a race seat at Ferrari for 2019, as he replaced former world champion, Kimi Raikkonen and partnering Sebastain Vettel. Whilst at Ferrari, Leclerc was unafraid to go wheel-to-wheel with established number one, Sebastian Vettel. He became the first man to out-score Vettel over a season with the Scuderia, a feat he repeated in crushing fashion the following year. Charles Leclerc was so successful in the lower divisions as he won the GP3 Series championship in 2016 and the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2017, it is now time for him to focus on winning the big one.

13. Esteban Ocon

Esteban Ocon is a French racing driver who competes for Alpine in Formula One, Ocon was born on the 17th of September 1996. The year 2014 saw Ocon break through in the world of single-seaters, as he beat a certain Max Verstappen to the European F3 title. Backed by Mercedes, he won the GP3 title the following year and was halfway through a season of DTM in 2016 when he was offered the chance to replace Rio Haryanto at the minnow Manor team from the Belgian Grand Prix onwards. Esteban Ocon was 20 years old when he made his Formula One debut for Manor Racing in the 2016 Belgian Grand Prix, he joined Manor as Rio Haryanto’s replacement. Esteban Ocon only spen a season with Manor and in 2017, he moved to Force India where he partnered Mexican driver Sergio Pérez. Up to now Esteban Ocon has been an average driver who took his maiden Formula One podium at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix and maiden victory at the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix.

14. Kevin Magnussen

Kevin Magnussen is a Danish racing driver, born in Roskilde on 5 October 1992. Magnussen made his Formula 1 debut at the 2014 Australian Grand Prix, joining McLaren for that season to replace the departed Sergio Perez. Kevin Magnussen made history on his debut season as he would score a P2 finish, this made him the first rookie to achieve that feat since Lewis Hamilton did it in 2007. After a successful debut season, people though Magnussen was on his way to the top but in in 2015, he was demoted to the reserve driver role at McLaren to make way for a returning Fernando Alonso, by October 2015, he was released from his contract with the team. In 2016, Kevin Magnussen was confirmed as a Renault driver, he only lasted there for a year as he moved to Haas a year later as Esteban Gutierrez’ replacement.

15. Lando Norris

Lando Norris is a Belgian-British racing driver currently competing in Formula One with McLaren, racing under the British flag. In the year 2015, Norris won the MSA Formula championship, he also won the Toyota Racing Series, Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup a year later in 2016. As a member of the McLaren junior programme, Norris made his F1 debut in 2019 when he earned a promotion from F2 to partner Carlos Sainz in the team’s all-new driver line-up. Norris had a decent debut campaign, scoring 49 points to finish P11 in the Drivers’ Championship. Norris had a great partnership with Sainz and he edged the Spaniard in their head-to-head qualifying battle, scoring points on 11 occasions, and only narrowly missing out on a top-10 championship placing. It was a similar pattern in 2020, with the affable Brit securing a maiden podium and moving up to ninth overall. Norris is still part of the McLaren team and he is doing well.

16. Mick Schumacher 

Mick Schumacher is the son of the legendary Formula 1 driver, Michael Schumacher. Mick Schumacher was born on 22 March 1999 and a lot is expected of him since he is Michael Schumacher’s son. Mick Schumacher is racing driver who competes for Haas in Formula One. His career began in karting in 2008, progressing to the German ADAC Formula 4 by 2015. After winning the 2018 FIA F3 European Championship, he progressed to Formula 2 in 2019, and won the 2020 Formula 2 Championship. It remains to be seen if Mick Schumacher is going to be as successful as his father but he is doing well for himself.

17. Sergio Perez

Sergio Perez is a Mexican Formula 1 driver who was born in Guadalajara on 26 January 1990. Perez made his debut in F1 with Sauber at the 2011 Australian Grand Prix, at the time he was still a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy and remained so until 2012. The year 2011 proved to be a proud year for Perez as he took his first steps into Formula 1. In the year 2012, Perez would finish on the podium three times in 2012, including P2s in Malaysia and Italy, earning him a drive at McLaren for 2013 where he replaced Lewis Hamilton. He left McLaren after just one season to join Force India / Racing Point and he helped to save the team from collapse in 2018. 2020 was an eventful year for Sergio Perez as he won his first Grand Prix from the bottom of the grid in Sakhir and finished fourth in the final standings. He ws relieved of his duties at Racing Point midway through the season but luckily for him, Red Bull announced post-season that Perez would be partnering Max Verstappen in 2021.

18. Daniel Ricciardo

Daniel Joseph Ricciardo AM is an Italian-Australian racing driver who is currently competing in Formula One driving for McLaren, under the Australian flag, he was born on the 1st of July 1989. The Australian combines all-out speed with impressive race craft. Never afraid to push to the limits if it means pulling off a pass, Ricciardo is a proven race-winner, capable of consistently finishing at the business end of the championship table given the right machinery. A regular podium-finisher in his days with Red Bull, Ricciardo has christened the steps around the world with a dousing of Aussie culture – the ‘Shoey’ – as he quaffed champagne from a soggy racing boot. Yes it’s goofy, but the trademark celebration illustrates why he is loved for his sense of humour but never underestimated on track. His career’s next move to Renault’s works team in 2019 brought fresh challenges for the Perth pilot, but failed to deliver his dream of following Jack Brabham and Alan Jones as the next world champion from Down Under and he moved on to McLaren for 2021.

19. George Russell

George Russell is a British Formula 1 driver who was born on 15 February 1998. In the early stages of his career, Russel was a member of the Mercedes junior programme. At the present moment, Russell is driving for Williams and he joined them as the reigning Formula 2 Champion. The years 2019 and 2020 were very tough for Russel as he ended those two seasons with no points at all. He eventually managed to get a top-10 finish when he was standing in for Lewis Hamilton at the Sakhir Grand Prix. George Russel trully announced himself in 2021 as he scored 16 points for the season, including a first podium achieved at the Belgian Grand Prix and these perfomances earned him a call-up to a Mercedes seat for 2022.

20. Carlos Sainz

Carlos Sainz, is a Spanish racing driver who ws born on the 1st of  September 1994 and competes in Formula One for Scuderia Ferrari. Carlos Sainz comes from a racing family as he is the son of Carlos Sainz Sr., a double World Rally Champion, and also the nephew of rally driver Antonio Sainz. The Spaniard burst onto the F1 scene back in 2015 as part of the Red Bull driver programme, assigned to Toro Rosso for that season where he would partner fellow Red Bull junior Max Verstappen. Sainz spent just short of three seasons with Toro Rosso before joining Renault towards the end of the 2017 campaign, signing for the French manufacturer on loan from Red Bull. 2018 would prove to be Sainz’s only full campaign in Renault colours though, a year where he would finish behind team-mate Nico Hulkenberg in the Drivers’ Championship. In 2019, Carlos Sainz Jr helped McLaren to P4 in the Constructors’ Championship while also securing P6 for himself in the Drivers’ Championship. 2020 was even better as he helped McLaren to P3 in the Constructors’ standings while also securing P6 for himself in the Drivers’ Championship. In the year 2021, he moved to Ferrari.
